Blindside parallel parking — backing into a parking space on the passenger side — is one of the most difficult backing maneuvers because you cannot look out your window and must rely entirely on your mirrors. This video teaches the specific techniques that make blindside parking achievable.

The challenge of blindside parking is that the target space is on the opposite side of the cab, meaning you lose direct line of sight to the dock and cones as soon as the trailer begins to angle. Your flat and convex passenger-side mirrors become your only source of information, and interpreting them correctly is a skill that requires practice and instruction.

Setup is even more critical for blindside than for sight side parking. The instructor demonstrates the ideal starting position with your trailer farther from the near boundary than in a sight side setup — typically seven to eight feet — because the geometry is less forgiving when you cannot visually confirm angles. You will learn why too-close starting positions are the most common cause of blindside parking failures.

Mirror technique is the heart of this video. The instructor shows exactly how to set your passenger mirrors before starting, with close-up shots of what properly adjusted flat and convex mirrors should display. You will learn which mirror to trust for different judgments — the convex mirror for trailer angle and proximity to boundaries, the flat mirror for distance judgment.

The steering sequence for blindside parking is demonstrated with multiple camera angles. The initial turn pushes the trailer to the right, and you must track its progress entirely through the mirrors. The instructor shows when to increase steering angle and, critically, when to begin counter-steering to straighten the combination.

Reference points are more important for blindside than any other backing maneuver. The video identifies specific visual cues in your mirrors that indicate the trailer is at the correct angle, approaching too close to a boundary, or properly centered in the space. On-screen markers highlight these reference positions during the demonstration.

Pull-up strategies for blindside are covered in detail. If you lose sight of key reference points or the trailer angle becomes too sharp, a strategic pull-up can save the maneuver. The instructor shows three common pull-up scenarios and the steering inputs needed for each to reset to a workable position.

This video also addresses the psychological aspect — many candidates tense up on blindside parking because it feels less controlled. The instructor provides confidence-building techniques and emphasizes that slow, deliberate movements with strategic pauses create more control than rushing.
