Endorsement — Hazardous Materials (H)

Hazardous Materials endorsement theory covering safe handling, transportation, and emergency response.

FMCSA CompliantSelf-Paced — No Time LimitsAutomatic TPR RegistrationFree Certificate

Requirements

  • TSA background check required (separate process)
  • Fingerprinting required at an approved TSA location
  • Additional state fees apply for the endorsement

What You'll Learn

You'll learn the complete Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR) framework — how hazardous materials are classified into 9 hazard classes, what each class includes, and the specific rules governing each. The course covers placarding and marking requirements in detail: when placards are required, how to display them correctly, and what happens if they're wrong. You'll study shipping papers, hazardous waste manifests, and documentation requirements that must be maintained. Loading and unloading procedures are covered for both bulk and non-bulk packaging, including segregation rules for incompatible materials. Emergency response procedures, incident reporting requirements, security awareness, and route restrictions (including tunnel prohibitions) round out the training.

How the Course Works

Two instruction units — Regulations & Classification and Safe Handling & Emergency Response. Each unit has multiple sections with self-paced content and quizzes (80% to pass). No time limits. Most students finish in 2–5 days.

After You Complete the Course

Who This Course Is For

CDL holders who need to transport hazardous materials and add the H endorsement

Not Sure If This Is the Right Course?

Not for drivers who already have an H endorsement on their CDL. Not for first-time CDL applicants — the Hazmat endorsement is added to an existing CDL.
