What You'll Learn

You'll learn everything from basic vehicle controls and dashboard instrumentation to advanced operating practices — visual search, space management, speed management, night driving, and extreme weather operations. You'll study combination vehicle systems including coupling and uncoupling procedures, air brake systems unique to tractor-trailers, and how to handle articulation dynamics. The course covers pre-trip and post-trip inspection procedures in detail, hours of service regulations, cargo securement for combination loads, and emergency procedures for jackknifing, skid recovery, and roadside breakdowns. By the end, you'll understand every FMCSA-required theory topic for Class A CDL operation.

How the Course Works

The Class A Theory course is organized into 5 instruction units following the FMCSA curriculum framework. Each unit contains multiple sections with readable, well-structured content. At the end of each section, you complete a quiz — score 80% to move on. You can retake quizzes as many times as needed. There are no time limits on any section; the platform saves your progress automatically. Most students complete the full curriculum in 2–4 weeks studying part-time.
